Does my dog have cancer or not?

14 year old German Shepherd mix: Several weeks ago, he was so anemic that he was having seizures, and had two blood transfusions. His stomach was endoscoped, and the doctor said that it was adenocarcinoma of the pylorus. They put him on Carafate and Pepcid. I thought he was going to die…..thought about surgery, but decided not to.Now, two weeks later, he is like his old self (still giving him Carafate and Pepcid…..bland diet…..no more black stools)…..I am hoping maybe he doesn't have cancer after all……If bleeding is controlled with this tumor, what should I be looking for? Do you think maybe they were wrong?

Do you get cankersores(mouth ulcers inside your mouth)?

I just went to the doctor and he prescibed some really good mouthwash called Stanford mouthwash with Carafate. Calvin Dykes say:
I have them, especially when I accidentilly bite my own lip. Can you get it over the counter?

Craig Irvin say:
this could be a complete myth, but I heard taking Lysine supplements is supposed to help. it might be worth a try?

Joan Tanner say:
I used to get them after smoking the occassional cigarthats when I decided that was not a good thing to doI have not had one in the 15 years since

Sadie Cunningham say:
It's called simplex herpes, I've had it since I was about six, it's just something you were born with and it's not contagious. I always used warm salt water, it burned a bit but it took care of the problem.I still get them but it's not as bad. Just brush your teeth regularly, keep control of the bacteria in your mouth.

Susan Carter say:
it's called herpes simplex 1 and the mouthwash can not cure what is causing the sores……it probably helps them and speeds up the process in healing and granulation, but it can't cure them…..herpes is incurable, but managable….sorry for the news.

Yes, it is called a Carafate Slurry. As is already noted, it coats the oral mucositis ulcers to help lessen pain. Another option is a combination of viscous lidocaine, benadryl and maalox. The lidocaine gives almost instant topical pain relief.
