I have had horrendous heartburn for several months now and Tums hasn’t helped anymore, so the day after I started Prilosec, no more heartburn. But I hear bad stuff now, like you gain weight, your heartburn will return when it is discontinued etc.

My 6 month old was taking Prilosec for about a week with little improvement. The GI specialist just upped his dose A LOT. But he is still not taking a bottle, and acting like it hurts. Will it take a few days for increased dose to make a difference, or should it be working the first day?

My doctor told me to take two Prilosec every morning (twice the regular dose) for gastritis. The Prilosec box says to take with “plenty of water”, and that’s for one pill. How much water should I take them with for maximum absorption and effectiveness?

I currently take Prevacid daily, but have all kinds of hassles with my insurance in keeping a steady supply. I’ve tried Prilosec with good results, but don’t think it works for me as well as Prevacid

They are both in the same class of drug, called Proton Pump Inhibitors. They both work in pretty much the same way. Differences, one is purple, the other is pink/black (30mg). Prilosec is available in generic (omeprazole) and over-the-counter, where Prevacid still has its patent and is only available as a prescription. Insurance will probably pay for the Prevacid. Many insurance companies won’t pay for anything that is over-the-counter.

My doctor diagnosed my son with reflux but NOTHING is helping his spitting up (massive amounts). He has been on 3 different meds, currently on prilosec. Its been 8 months now and he is spitting up at LEAST 25–30 times a day. I am beside myself and do not know what to do anymore. He had his upper GI tract looked at and it showed NOTHING and everything looked mormal. Something is wrong but I dont know what else I can do or what else I can tell my doctor…Since he is gaining weight they are not taking any actions on his case. I have even started him on solids and he still spits up but it seems to hurt him more and it grosser. Please help and tell me if any of you had babies with reflux or any other help you can give me! Thanks!

I am 22 and female. After 2 months of random stomach problems (pain, nausea with no vomitting, etc.) I was recently (2 weeks ago) diagnosed with Gastritis via Upper GI endoscopy (results are still out if it is caused by H. Pylori bacteria). I was put on Prilosec (20 mg) daily. I have completed 2 weeks of it already, and I DON’T FEEL BETTER. I still have “attacks” of the gnawing stomach pain that keep me laid up for a day or so. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice? Should it be taking this long? And before you suggest it, I have already changed my diet to cut out all caffeine, coffee, tea, soda, fatty or fried foods, sugary foods, and acidic (tomatoes, etc) foods. And I get a good amount of exercise. Also, I am open to the fact it might be stress-induced, what do you do for that (and don’t say cheap breathing techniques, I need something better than that.)THANKS!And for the 100th time, I am POSITIVE I’m not pregnant.

From week one of my sons birth we knew that he had reflux because he spit up ALL the time in massive amounts. He is now 8 months and he has not improved at all! He has been on 3 different meds (zantac, previcid, and prilosec) and none have helped the throwing up. Even now that he is on solids he still spits up. He is gaining weight fine, and is not fussy but I can not take much more of the constant spit up. We both have to change cloths mulitple times a day. Is it his reflux or could he have some other type of problem? I thought it was suppose to be getting better but it has gotten worse. We have also tried thickening his formula and that did nothing but make his spit up more chunky. Any insight would be great! Thanks!
