My 8 month old son has reflux and it will not go away…?
From week one of my sons birth we knew that he had reflux because he spit up ALL the time in massive amounts. He is now 8 months and he has not improved at all! He has been on 3 different meds (zantac, previcid, and prilosec) and none have helped the throwing up. Even now that he is on solids he still spits up. He is gaining weight fine, and is not fussy but I can not take much more of the constant spit up. We both have to change cloths mulitple times a day. Is it his reflux or could he have some other type of problem? I thought it was suppose to be getting better but it has gotten worse. We have also tried thickening his formula and that did nothing but make his spit up more chunky. Any insight would be great! Thanks!

My son spit up for a long time too, breast feed and bottle fed. I would try to have quiet time after he ate to give time for his stomach to settle. This helped a bit. If it is a lot and not just a little spit up each time, I would then take him to at least 3 different dr's for their opinion.

What kind of formula is he on? He may not be tolerant to the formula.

What kind of forumula is he on? You might want to look into the Enfamil. They seem to make a formula for almost everthing. I think the one for reflux or frequent spit up is Enfamil A.R. Lipil. To many different medicines might not be good for a baby that young and might get thier immune system use to them that when they do need them it wont work. Good Luck!

Have you tried getting a second opinion. I'd rather try another pediatrician who may have new information for you. Processed foods can play havoc on a infant/toddlers digestive system. I try to do as many organic and non-processed foods.GOOD LUCK!!

Take him to another doctor… He may very well be allergic to what you are giving him.

The fact that he is gaining weight is a good sign. If you are not confident in the way your son's doctor is handling this situation, ask for a second opinion. No one knows your son better than you and if your doctor is a good one he will not mind if you get a second opionion or ask to see a specialist.

My son had this too. My brother as well when he was a baby and my father. It went away in all of them at about the age of 1. For my son it was about 2 weeks after his birthday. Now he'll be 4 in July and he's doing fine. We never tried any meds, the dr said he'd grow out of it, just keep him fed and happy. I know this isn't much help but it will eventually get better and stop.

It's called go to the doctor. These people go to school to learn about the way the human body functions under the duress of life. Google a pediatrician.
