Like everyone has said make sure you ask you childs Doctor first. But my daughter began taking it when she was about 3 month becuase she had acid reflux really bad. I must say the Zantac really did help. She is now 7 month old and has no more reflux.
First and foremost ask your pediatrician. My son had it while in the NICU after have a fundo (surgery to slow reflux) at 32 weeks gestation (he was born at 28 weeks)…he has moved up from zantac to previcid to prilosec with reglan…he is now 4.
First off, I would like to introduce myself…My name is Marquita and I am a Medical Assistant in CO. Zantac Oral for infants is not harmful for infants, if given in the correct dosage amounts and for the correct symptoms. If your infant does have a severe case of GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease) then you should first try giving him a drink that contains 5% dextrose(sugar) in water. If this does not help reduce the reflux, then Zantac for infants or Tagamet can be used. These drugs block the production of the irritating stomach acids that may be regurgitated into the esophagus, thus relieving baby's heartburn-like symptoms. You can purchase these medications at your local drugstore but refer to your pediatrician or local pharmacist for correct dosage amount.
As everyone else has said, ask your dr. My son had acid reflux and was prescribed Zantac at 2 months. It didn't help him that much, so we ended up taking him off of it. We switched his formula and started adding rice cereal to his bottles and it really helped him. He's 8 months old now and we don't have any problems with his reflux. Good luck!
